Save the Curzon Mayfair cinema

curzon_mayfair.jpgUPDATE: In a victorious end to the campaign led by our West End Labour Action Team, the cinema has been saved from the threat of closure.

The historic Curzon Mayfair cinema faces closure, after the developers of luxury flats above it have demanded that the cinema - which is a Grade II listed building - pays for the £500k soundproofing now required for those flats.

They know that this cost is unaffordable for Curzon.

As CEO of Curzon World, Philip Knatchbull, told the Evening Standard:

“Were Curzon forced to leave it would not only hurt the independent film community but also deprive  London of a cinema loved for its  heritage and Grade II listed interiors."
