Nine Elms Bridge Petition

Proposed Bridge To Pimlico Is An Expensive, Unwanted Vanity Project

Churchill Labour Councillors Jason Williams and Shamim Talukder have criticised Wandsworth Council for pushing forward its controversial plans for a pedestrian and cycle bridge from Nine Elms to Pimlico.

Wandsworth have identified a number of potential landing points - including Pimlico Gardens and two potential landing points in Churchill Ward.

"We are amazed that Wandsworth are continuing with their plans, despite widespread opposition and the Mayor's commitment that the bridge can only go ahead with support on both sides of the river," said Councillor Williams. "We will continue to stand up for our community and continue to fight against this scheme at any landing site in Pimlico."

Please help us send a clear message to Wandsworth that the bridge is unwanted by signing our petition below.

PETITION: The Nine Elms Bridge is an expensive vanity project. We call upon Wandsworth Council to listen to public opinion and cancel the proposed bridge at any landing point in Westminster.

There is only one river crossing between Tower Bridge and the M25 – the fastest growing part of London. SIX bridges land in Westminster alone. This is just one reason not to build the Nine Elms Bridge whose sole purpose is to push up property prices especially in the Nine Elms development on the Lambeth side. London needs many, many things – this bridge isn’t one of them.

Unnecessary and destructive. Spend the money on worthier causes

Born and bred in Pimlico. Played in Pimlico Gardens (known to us as the Old Man’s Garden’s) and don’t want them destroyed for this folly

Bridge has no transport merits at all and needs to be shelved at the earliest opportunity

The current mayor has been quiet on this. Why?

A disgraceful waste of resources on a project which will contribute nothing that is not to the detriment of the Pimlico neighbourhood. Dangerously high numbers of cycles in an area where there are 3 schools will cause congestion and accidents – similarly, increased footfall will overburden the tube and buses. The local environment will be damaged wherever it is sited. Scrap it at once.

Totally opposed to bridge. It will destroy the quiet village like atmosphere of St. George’s Square which is an oasis of calm for the residents of Pimlico

This proposed bridge will save less than a minute on journey times yet destroy the character of Pimlico which we’ve worked so hard to nurture.

The high rise buildings across the river look like the Towers of Mordor and seem to be erected with the motivation of charmless greed.

We do not need your bridge. Leave our small green area alone.

Yet another example of resident’s opinions being ignored – this time not by our own borough!

We already have a cycle super highway on Vauxhall Bridge Road. There is no need for this Bridge.

This bridge is not needed – waste of public money and will cause destruction of scarce green areas in Pimlico.
