Cities of London and Westminster Constituency Labour Party is proud to announce the result of the ballot for parliamentary candidate selection.

Following a closely contested selection our members have chosen Steven Saxby to be our candidate in the next general election.

As a Vicar and Labour activist Steven Saxby has spent his life campaigning for equality, justice and peace. Steven knows very well the problems we face and the opportunities we must take to ensure we grow as a better society and tackle some of the big issues that this constituency faces.

In the snap general election called in 2017, Cities of London and Westminster Labour came closer than ever to toppling Tory incumbent Mark Field MP following a hard-fought and spirited campaign by our candidate Ibrahim Dogus. Now, following a formal selection process the members have spoken and we have put our faith in Steven Saxby and we hope even more of the wonderful residents of Cities of London and Westminster will give their vote to him next time. We pass on our sincere thanks to Ibrahim who raised the bar in 2017 to new levels and showed that if we pull together and in the same direction we can win this seat.

Cities of London and Westminster Labour Party, with Steven Saxby as our candidate can now look forward with anticipation to the next election, whenever it takes it place. We will be ready offering the public a clear alternative to failed austerity and the policies that have done so much damage to our country. The next critical test for our CLP will be the local elections to Westminster City Council this May. Winning a Labour majority on this deeply entrenched Conservative stronghold of privilege will be the first step in gaining a Labour MP for this constituency and we know that our Prospective Parliamentary Candidate Steven Saxby will be out on the Labour doorstep campaigning with all our candidates for council and active members over the next 90 days to achieve that goal on May 3rd.

We would like to thank all the officers who helped to ensure the parliamentary selection ran so smoothly, to the volunteers who gave their time to help at the various hustings and to the members and supporters for your participation in this exciting contest. We would also like to say a big thank you to all the other candidates Rehana Ameer, Chris Clark, Gordon Nardell, Denise Scott-McDonald, Sucharita Sethi and Christian Wolmar for contributing to such an exciting and well fought contest.

Congratulations Steven Saxby, the member's chosen candidate for Cities of London and Westminster Labour!
