Labour launches petitions to stop cuts to Westminster schools

millbank_academy.jpgCities of London & Westminster Labour Party have launched two petitions calling on Westminster City Council to urge the Government to scrap its school funding proposals.

According to the School Cuts website, schools in both West End and Vincent Square wards will face cuts under the new funding formula.

In the West End, All Souls Primary School will lose £117,000 and 3 teachers; St George’s Primary School will lose £112,000 and 3 teachers; and Soho Parish School will lose £97,000 and 2 teachers. The schools serving families in Vincent Square Ward include Millbank Academy (losing £72,000); Burdett Coutts School (£81,000); Grey Coat Hospital School (£630,000); St Vincent de Paul School (£90,000) and St Matthews School (£113,000)

"It is astonishing that the Tories are actually cutting money from our primary schools," says Pancho Lewis of the West End Labour Action Team. "We're talking about our children's future here: surely primary schools are not something the Tories should be playing political games with. They should have nothing to do with their ideological austerity agenda. There's a simple solution to this: the Government should invest in, not cut, education."
